Spirits

The base alcohol that defines the cocktail it makes, with some overlap between categories. Any cocktail uses one (or occasionally more) spirits with mixers and garnishes.

Mixers

Added to spirits to give flavor, volume, and texture, mixers are typically non-alcoholic liquids but can sometimes be a type of beer or wine.

Garnishes

Garnishes are small, solid elements added to give flavor or distinction to a cocktail. While many can be omitted without changing the flavor, some are the defining characteristic of their drink.
