Stone Fence, a can of hard cider, and a small bottle of rum

Stone Fence

This revolution-era classic dates back to colonial America, needing only two ingredients that were fairly abundant at the time.

Dark or spiced rum goes best with the cider, but bourbon, whiskey, and brandy are acceptable substitutions. A slice of apple or ginger root makes a good garnish in lieu of mint, and bitters are a modern addition that can be left out if you want the true classic.
